About the A.S. 55 Award

Thank you for your interest in the A.S. 55 Awards! This recognition is presented to exemplary student leaders at 菠菜网lol正规平台 that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to serving within our campus community and beyond 菠菜网lol正规平台. Up to 12 students will be selected to receive the award and will be recognized at the 14th Annual 菠菜网lol正规平台 Student Leadership Gala on Tuesday, May 6, 4:30-7pm, in the Diaz Compean Student Union Ballroom.

Please feel free to nominate yourself, a friend or a classmate!

Qualifications:

• Be fully matriculated: undergraduate students (6 units per semester) or graduate students (3 units per semester)
• Have completed a minimum of 12 semester units
• Have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5
• Be in good standing with the University
• Not a previous A.S. 55 Award recipient

Requirements:

• A completed nomination form by Friday, March 28th, 5PM
• Completed application requirements by Friday, April 4th, 5PM
• Four completed sections: Awards/Achievements, Activities & Organization Involvement, Leadership on Campus, Community Service/Philanthropy
  • One (1) Letter of Recommendation

Note: Letter of Recommendation can be from a fellow student, staff or faculty member. Letters should support your nomination and highlight the reasons you should be considered for the A.S. 55 Award. Please have your recommender email their letter to abigail.escobar@zlmmc8.com with subject: A.S. 55: NOMINEE - [LAST NAME, FIRST NAME] no later than Friday, April 4th by 5 PM.

Important Dates:

• Nomination Deadline: Friday, March 28th, 5PM
• Application Requirements Deadline: Friday, April 4th, 5PM (Letter of Recommendation by Friday, April 4th, 5 PM)
• Selected awardees will be notified via email. An invitation to the gala will be included: Friday, April 18th
• Leadership Gala RSVP Deadline: Friday, May 2nd
• A.S. 55 awardees will be recognized at the 菠菜网lol正规平台 Student Leadership Gala: Tuesday, May 6th

Important: It is your responsibility to inform the student you nominated to submit a completed nomination form by Friday, March 28th, 5 PM & Letter of Recommendation by Friday, April 4th, 5 PM)

How to Nominate Yourself

1. Complete an online nomination form by April 5th. Please complete four sections outlining the following (250-word limit per section):
   • Awards/Achievements
   • Activities and Organization Involvement
   • Leadership on Campus
   • Community Service/Philanthropy
2. Letter of Recommendation: request the letter from a fellow student, staff or faculty. Letter should support your nomination for A.S. 55 and highlight your contributions to the campus community. Please e-mail letter to abigail.escobar@zlmmc8.com with subject:
   A.S. 55: NOMINEE – LAST NAME, FIRST NAME no later than Friday, April 12 at 5:00pm.

How to Nominate a Student

Students may be nominated by fellow students, faculty, staff and community

1. Complete an online nomination form by Friday, March 28th, 5PM.
2. Nominated student must complete the online nomination form no later than Friday April 4th at 5:00pm. Nominees will complete four sections outlining the following (250-word limit per section):
   • Awards/Achievements
   • Activities and Organization Involvement
   • Leadership on Campus
   • Community Service/Philanthropy
3. Letter of Recommendation Submit one for your nominee via e-mail. Explain why you have nominated the student. Describe his/her contributions to the campus community. You may also ask a student, faculty or staff. Letter must be e-mailed abigail.escobar@zlmmc8.com with subject:
   A.S. 55: NOMINEE - LAST NAME, FIRST NAME no later than Friday, April 4th, 5PM.

About the Student Leadership Gala

Honoring Those Who Make A Difference
The A.S. 55 awardees are recognized at the Student Leadership Gala, a campus-wide event in collaboration with Associated Students, Student Involvement and the Solidarity Network, celebrating the outstanding student leadership at San Jose State University.

A.S. 55 Award: Associated Students 

Honoring and recognizing the unsung heroes of San José State University; those students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to 菠菜网lol正规平台 and have continually given back to the campus or local communities. 

Student Involvement:
Student Organization Awards

菠菜网lol正规平台 is home to over 450 Recognized Student Organizations. The organizations include fraternities and sororities, academic and honorary societies, cultural and religious groups, special interest organizations, and club sports. These organizations are where many Spartans develop leadership skills, find community, and create long-lasting friendships and memories that carry with them beyond 菠菜网lol正规平台. Both individual student leaders and their student organizations will be honored and celebrated for their purposeful contributions to 菠菜网lol正规平台 and the greater community.

Solidarity Network

The Solidarity Network of 菠菜网lol正规平台 is a coalition of student affairs centers fostering student leadership through multiple identities while establishing a social justice foundation. It is comprised of the students and staff of:

• African American/Black Student Success Center
• Chicanx/Latinx Student Success Center
• Gender Equity Center
• MOSAIC Cross Cultural Center
• PRIDE Center
• UndocuSpartan Student Resource Center
• Wellness and Health Promotion

The Solidarity Network encourages collaboration between communities and advocates for institutional change.

This honor will be awarded to an 菠菜网lol正规平台 student (junior or senior standing) who has displayed exemplary leadership skills throughout their 菠菜网lol正规平台 career.
